In the first couple months of having my job as a shop technician at the Cal Poly Machine Shops, I had to make a project to show that I have gained significant knowledge in welding, so I made this open-faced octahedron out of 16 gauge steel. I used a TIG welding machine, first securing each triangle together with tack welds using a fixture that held the triangles at the correct angle. I then went through and welded each edge together to finalize the box.
